Summery cocktail made with strawberries, basil, vodka, club soda and a drizzle of honey. Cheers!
Updated by Kathryne Taylor on August 29, 2024
The concept for this cocktail came to me in a flash of brilliance (or desperation?) around 5 oโclock last Friday. Iโm sure it has been done before, but itโs delightfully simple and postworthy nonetheless.
I must warn you that this drink is dangerously delicious; I took a sip, snapped some photos, and slurped it right down. Cheers! If you love strawberry cocktails, donโt miss myย Strawberry-Infused Mint Julep and Frozen Strawberry Margaritas.
Strawberry Smash Cocktail
Summery cocktail made with strawberries, basil, vodka, club soda and a drizzle of honey. Cheers!
Ingredients
Per cocktail
- 5 ripe strawberries, leafy ends removed
- 5 fresh basil leaves
- 1 medium lemon, juiced (plus more for garnish)
- Drizzle honey
- 1 ยฝ ounces vodka
- Club soda
Instructions
- In a mixing glass, thoroughly muddle strawberries with the basil.
- Squeeze in the juice of one lemon and a drizzle of honey.
- Stir in the vodka.
- Fill a collins glass with ice and pour your mixture into the glass. Top it off with club soda.
- Mix by pouring the drink back into your mixing glass, then back into your drinking glass. Garnish with lemon round and a strawberry.
Notes
Strained option: If you arenโt down with chunks of smashed strawberry floating in your drink, just pour the mixture through a strainer, into a glass filled with ice.

This is the second post in my new summer cocktails series. Donโt miss my first cocktail, the beautiful red bell, which is made with red bell pepper, basil, and gin!
what gorgeous photos!!! and delicious looking cocktail :)
Bloggers everywhere have been talking about the heat and putting up recipes of cocktails, smoothies, lemonade and all kinds of refreshing drinks, itโs making me so thirsty!!! This, especially, is making me run to the kitchen pronto! Beautiful pictures :D
This is exactly what I need. Very cool recipe.
You take GREAT photos!! That drink is making me thirsty!
This looks superb!
Beautiful photos! I love the light and the beautiful pink/red hues. So pretty. An yummy, to boot.
wow. that looks amazing! thanks so much for sharing! i am going to that liquor store asap to get me some vodka for this one. yummmm
It is amazing, and you can use the basil on your back porch to make it! Iโve been drinking the cheap wine we bought together. Yummm.
yay! i finished off the lighter one. you know, the one you can drink the whole bottle by yourself and still stand up? major selling point apparently. :)
btw, in the past week we made:
soba noodle bowl
kale salad
ranier cherry mojito
and strawberry cocktail
keep em coming. and i got my friend, evan (danโs computer game playing friend) to put your blog on his daily blogs that he checks out since he loved the noodles so much. :)
miss you!
Woah! Iโm in awe that you made all of those recipes in the past week. I love it!
P.s. Did you notice a slight effervescence in that cheap wine? It was a little champagne like. Me likey.
Gorgeous girl you are on fire! Iโm sorry if you literally are right now in summer heat (join Cookie by the fan), but I mean on here, your blog. Your photography and your recipes are just awesome. I will be trying this cocktail come spring here in Australia. Thanks for visiting my blog again too. I loved your tweets about flirting with the patagonia guy! Hilarious! And I love any Cookie sightings! Have a wonderful weekend.
So good to hear from you again! You crack me up. I was thoroughly smitten by that Patagonia guy, oh my! Iโm not sure I know who you are on twitterโplease say hello so I know itโs you!
OMG I just made this and itโs AMAZING. My new go-to summer cocktail!
Hey, Iโm Robby, I created this cocktail a few years ago, I work at Nobis Hotel in Stockholm Sweden, I am born a raised in NYC.
Heyโฆ
iโve had this drink beforeโ itโs delish!
iโm going to make it for a party this coming up weekend and want to make a pitcher of it.
Do you think you can give me measurements for a pitcher?
Hey Megan, Iโm sorry I didnโt respond in time! Hope you managed to have a great party without my measurements.
Wow! This recipe sounds fabulous! I love the simplicity of it. I have all the ingredients at home. I will definitely try it this weekend!
btw-i just discovered your blog and I love it!
Hi,this drink looks so good. I will definatly make this.
Unbelievably delicious.
I swear you are reading my mind. I keep coming up with recipe ideas and googling them, and there is Cookie and Kate with perfect, clean versions of everything I am searching for. Thank you for this amazing recipe. It was so refreshing and delicious!
Do you think I could make a punch with this ?? Any suggestions on the amounts???
Sorry for the slow response, Cynthia! This may not be the best punch candidate since club soda loses its fizz over time and the strawberry chunks will sink to the bottom.
This recipe is legit! A friend of mine sent me the recipe and I made a few last week. Really enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing!
Honestly, the basil did nothing for this drink. I thought about pouring it out, but I didnโt want to waste good vodka. I added some agave and that made it palatable. Leave out the basil and itโs be similar to a strawberry lemonade.
Iโm sorry you didnโt love this recipe. I appreciate your feedback, Kim.
It was a very original idea. I did enjoy it more without the basil, it was very light. I have enjoyed many of your other recipes, thank you.
